My father was a woodcarver and painter, so I got in contact with art already in my early childhood (see also the post "Some newer paintings").
I attended the multilingual schools in my hometown Urtijei (also named Ortisei in Italian and St.Ulrich in German); my mother-tongue is Ladin, while I learned German, Italian and English at school.
After graduating "summa cum laude" from Padova University in Modern Languages and Literature, I taught History and Literature in secondary and upper schools for many years.

At the same time I was active in some Ladin cultural associations and began writing for local newspapers and editors. In 1989 I won the first prize in the poetry contest in Cortina d'Ampezzo, dedicated to the mountain poets. Together with a group of people belonging to the "Union Generela di Ladins dla Dolomites" interested in modern Ladin music we organized the festival "Ladinatour", for which I wrote the text of the official hymn (music by Georg Mussner).
My friend Marco Forni, author of important Ladin dictionaries and grammars, and I founded the Association of Ladin writers "Scurlins" and edited the literary and artistic journal "Tras", which was an important means of creativity and communication between writers and artists from different valleys.
From 1992 till 2018 I was Director of Education for the Ladin Schools in my province. It was a rather difficult and demanding task, as I had to safeguard our special school-organization and specific ethnic-rights against political interference and ideological opposition. For a long time I was a member of the board of the Ladin Cultural Institute "Micurà de Rü" and president of the Ladin Pedagogical Institute.

I had also the opportunity to teach Literature, History, Pedagogy and School-Legislation at the Faculty of Education of the Free University of Bolzano.
I am nowadays a writer and author of films, radio and tv programs; in the course of time I published about 20 books and a great number of essays (see also the post "My books...")

In 2022 I was awarded the honour-membership of the Ladin Union of my home-valley (Union di Ladins de Gherdeina).
